Don’t forget to wonder…
After the initial painting was done, I knew I wanted to attach metal…I’m a metal smith after all…duh! Each individual square needed to be cut from the copper sheet. Two sizes. Perfectly matched.
Then each square had to have the edges rounded. I wanted them to be soft and fluid in appearance.
But every so often while I am painting I feel this brief interlude of peace. I’ll scan the painting with a critical eye, tilt my head slightly to the right, and squint. “Yes. I do like it. I can paint.” And then the mental attack. Then the self doubt. Then the little voice that says, “you’re crazy, anyone could do that.”
The voice that comes from years of failure. The voice that rises from high school art rooms and college art critiques. The voice of others.
I also really like his song Runaway from the movie Soul Surfer, it’s not on THIS album, but such a great tune from such a great flick…here’s a tiny preview…
You are beautiful.
You tenaciously attacked the sport of soccer, the one sport I know nothing about, and played with such heart, and yet such compassion for the others on the field.
You have dealt with being the middle sister, not quite the teen, and definitely not the “little girl”. I know it must be hard, to know where you fit, but you are doing beautifully.
You even learned to shoot a gun!
My sweet Isabel, on this your 12th birthday I want you to know how much you are loved. How much I enjoy your laughter and your silly jokes. How proud I am of you.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
